Late summer in Livorno has its own soundtrack. The Livorno Music Festival 2026 brings chamber music, international performers and emerging musicians to some of the city’s most atmospheric settings, from the Old Fortress and the Central Market to the Goldoni Theatre and the Natural History Museum.
The 16th edition runs from 10 August to 8 September 2026, with 30 concerts across 18 venues and several additional dates beyond the city. For guests staying at Camping Village Miramare, it is an easy way to combine time by the Tuscan sea with a cultural evening in Livorno. This guide focuses on the concerts still to come, practical ticket information and simple ideas for planning your visit.
More than a conventional classical music festival
The festival’s identity comes from the meeting of established artists, teachers and talented young musicians from different countries. The programme moves comfortably between well-known classics, Romantic repertoire, contemporary compositions, opera, jazz and tango. You do not need to be a classical music expert to enjoy it: several evenings are built around familiar melodies, film music and lively combinations of instruments.
The venues are just as important as the programme. A concert inside a Renaissance fortress overlooking the harbour feels very different from a formal theatre evening. The historic market, museums and waterfront buildings allow visitors to discover the city while listening. In other words, the festival can become the framework for a mini city break rather than a single night out.
Concert highlights from 26 August to 8 September
There are many events on the full schedule. The following selection gives a useful overview of the styles and locations available during the final two weeks.
26 August: “Divertimenti” at Bottini dell’Olio
On Wednesday 26 August at 9 pm, the Bottini dell’Olio Library hosts a musical journey spanning three centuries. Flute, clarinet, guitar and piano come together in a programme featuring Bach, Bartók, Poulenc and other composers. The venue is in the Venezia district, so arrive early if you would like to walk beside Livorno’s canals before the performance.
30 August: contemporary music or the magic of opera
Sunday 30 August offers two very different experiences. At 5 pm, “Music for the Canticle of the Creatures” presents new compositions inside the Cannoniera of the Old Fortress. At 9 pm, “The Magic of Opera” at the Galliano Masini Music Circle moves through three centuries of vocal music, from Purcell and Mozart to Verdi, Puccini and Mascagni.
3 September: from Morricone to Piazzolla
On Thursday 3 September at 9 pm, Livorno’s Central Market becomes the setting for “Rome > Buenos Aires”. Film scores, jazz, tango and popular traditions meet in a programme that includes Morricone, Gershwin, Brahms and Piazzolla. This is a particularly approachable choice for travellers who are curious about the festival but do not usually attend classical concerts.
5 September: Mozart and Bruch at the Goldoni Theatre
On Saturday 5 September at 9 pm, “The Art of the Concerto” presents two Mozart concertos and Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1. Violinist Boris Belkin, young festival soloists and the orchestra of the Pietro Mascagni State Conservatory perform at the historic Goldoni Theatre. It is a strong choice for anyone looking for the atmosphere of a traditional concert evening.
6 September: music at sunrise in the Old Fortress
The most unusual event begins at 6 am on Sunday 6 September in Piazzale Cosimo at the Old Fortress. “Music at Sunrise” welcomes the new day with Mozart, Schubert and Grieg. Two further events follow: “Musical Surprises” at 6.30 pm inside the fortress and “The Devil’s Trill” at 9 pm at the Natural History Museum.
8 September: the closing concert
The festival concludes on Tuesday 8 September at 9 pm at the Natural History Museum. The Klimt Quartet and young LMF musicians perform music by Brahms and Dvořák, bringing the 16th edition to an intimate chamber-music finale.
Tickets: what visitors should know
At the time of writing, a standard single ticket costs €12. Five- and eight-concert passes are also available, alongside reduced admission for LMF artists and students. Children under 12 and people with disabilities are admitted free with advance reservation. Conditions may change, so always check the official concert programme and the official ticket information before setting out.
Tickets can be bought online through Vivaticket, at authorised outlets or at the venue according to the box-office times published by the organisers. Open-air concerts at the Old Fortress are scheduled to move into its indoor spaces if the weather turns bad.
Planning the evening from Miramare
Check the venue carefully before leaving: the festival uses several buildings across Livorno and also includes a few concerts in other Tuscan towns. For city-centre events, allow extra time for the journey, parking and finding the correct entrance.
A performance at Bottini dell’Olio or the Central Market pairs naturally with a walk around the Venezia district and its canals. If your concert is near the seafront, begin with an evening stroll towards Terrazza Mascagni. Miramare’s guide to the territory and surroundings has more ideas for exploring Livorno and the Etruscan Coast.
Back at Miramare, the sea is waiting just beyond the campsite. Guests can choose from sea-view pitches, mobile homes, bungalows and other accommodation. If you would like to plan a short break around a festival concert, request a quote for your preferred dates.
